On 26.03.2020, we completed a production test of the aluminium alloy wire rod with a content of 3% Mg (EN AW 5754).

During the test, we analysed three main process issues: obtaining and chemical composition stability of alloy; stability of casting process and stability of rolling process.

In the first area we have achieved the assumed goal. The chemical composition of the alloy was stable throughout the whole test. In the second area we also have achieved the assumed goal. The parameters selection of the casting process and machine settings allowed to produce a cast bar without cracks and perform the continuous casting process. We observed some difficulties in the third area of the process. We are currently analysing data from the rolling process and prepare conclusions. The next few days will allow us to verify concepts on how to solve a defined problem.

The next challenge is to obtain 5xxx series aluminium alloy with 5% Mg content. We are working hard on the solution.
